What is drug abuse?

Can you believe it?  Almost anyone can turn to drugs. But what is drug abuse? Drug abuse also known as substance abuse is when an individual consume drugs and becomes an addiction. Drugs change the brain in ways that foster compulsive drug abuse, quitting is difficult, even for those who are ready to do so.

Body:
The causes of drug abuse can go on, but it is rare you will find athletes who will jeopardize their playing career to do drugs and there are retired athletes who may turn to it. Especially after an athletes career is over, they may find ways to keep themselves occupied with the money they have or get involved with people who do.

Like Daryl Strawberry, a former American MLB player was addicted to drug and alcohol abuse. He struggled with substance abuse during his playing career as well as after retiring. Any person and professional athlete should know, there are consequences of drug abuse. But why risk it all, right?  Also gambling can turn one into doing drug abuse, because you’re gambling away with your money.


It’s unfortunate that retired athletes may turn to drugs but sometimes they can be so far into it, it’s hard to get out of. With rehab and support from family/friends, they can slowly overcome it getting the help they need.
