Title: What is drug abuse? – How retired athletes may turn to drugs
Lead Paragraph:
Can you believe it? Almost anyone
can turn to drugs. But what is drug
abuse? Drug abuse also known as substance abuse is when an individual
consume drugs and becomes an addiction. Drugs change the
brain in ways that foster compulsive drug abuse, quitting is difficult, even
for those who are ready to do so.
Body:
The causes of drug abuse
can go on, but it is rare you will find athletes who will jeopardize their
playing career to do drugs and there are retired athletes who may turn to it.
Especially after an athletes career is over, they may find ways to keep
themselves occupied with the money they have or get involved with people who
do.

Like Daryl Strawberry, a former American MLB player was addicted to drug and alcohol abuse. He
struggled with substance abuse during his playing career as well as after
retiring. Any person and professional athlete should know, there are consequences of drug abuse. But
why risk it all, right? Also gambling
can turn one into doing drug abuse, because you’re gambling away with your
money.
It’s unfortunate that retired athletes may turn to drugs but sometimes
they can be so far into it, it’s hard to get out of. With rehab and support
from family/friends, they can slowly overcome it getting the help they need.
